In the spring of 1975, seven(7) members of the Durham golfing community envisioned the establishment of a non-profit organization that would set out to accomplish the following objectives:
To promote junior golf in the Durham, North Carolina area.
To provide inner city youth with life learning experiences as it relates to golf.
To provide a mechanism to financially support charitable organizations in the Durham community.
To provide scholarship funds on a need basis to college bound youth.
To establish a nationally recognized open championship.
Soon there after, documents were submitted to Office of the Secretary of State of North Carolina seeking non-profit incorporation. Later on that year we were offically chartered as The Bull City Golf Club, Inc. The Year 2000 will constitute 25 years of existence as a viable organization in the Durham community. The list below outlines several of our accomplishments:
The first non-profit inner city organizations to formally promote junior golf in the Durham, North Carolina area.
Provided yearly contributions to the Durham Striders, John Avery Boy's Club, Duke Mental Health, and Durham Social Services.
Conducted twenty-three(23) consecutive Bull City Open Championships in the Durham area.
Charter member of the North South Golf Association.
Member of the National Minority Golf Scholarship Foundation.
501(c)(3) Internal Revenue Service Code classification.
As we approach the Year 2000 coupled with a welcomed vision into the new millennium, the Bull City Golf Club/Youth Foundation will be confronted with very important issues as it relates to our mission and purpose. Feel assured that we are up this challenge and totally committed to the objectives established by our charter members.
